Position Summary

Catalent is looking to recruit a Controls Engineer to join a growing team in Woodstock, IL.

The Controls Engineer will be instrumental in supporting the development of existing and new automated manufacturing equipment within the Woodstock facility.

Additionally, the Controls Engineer will be responsible for development and compliance of controls and electrical specifications for all new equipment and existing equipment retrofits as well as the hands-on implementation of controls systems.

In concert with Catalent’s Patient First philosophy, this role is paramount to ensure the efficacy and quality of our manufacturing processes which will ultimately yield safe drug products for patients.

The Role

  • Test and verify controls requirements on new equipment and existing equipment retrofits including maintenance of accurate controls drawings and documentation

  • Support new equipment controls development through validation, start-up, and continuous process improvement; install controls systems or retrofits on new and existing equipment

  • Support PLC maintenance and programming on Siemens, Allen Bradley, and Maco 3000 systems; act as key resource in troubleshooting controls and PLC issues in manufacturing

  • Write and facilitate approval of user requirements, change control documents, design specifications, and acceptance test documents for equipment based automation projects

  • Compile equipment specifications from existing recent equipment controls and automation projects and develop additional specifications where needed to develop a current specification library for typical equipment controls and automation projects at the site

  • Prepare requests for quotation based on User Requirements Specifications for multiple bidders for equipment automation projects; review bids and recommend vendor(s) for selection for equipment automation projects

The Candidate

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering preferred

  • Minimum of 5 years Controls Engineering experience required; 8-10 years’ experience preferred

  • Knowledge of change control and validation is desired; experience working in a cGMP controlled environment

  • Experience with packaging equipment in the pharmaceutical, food, or cosmetic industry a plus; (Packaging equipment includes: pouching equipment, cartoners, labelling equipment, scanners, and vision systems)

  • Six Sigma/Lean Manufacturing/Professional Project Management skills highly desirable

  • Must be able to provide engineering support to site 24x7 operations which requires periodic phone and/or in-person support after work hours and weekends
